Intellectual and philosophical movements in the West relied on human reason rather than revelation as the source of truth and progress. As the church swept along with rapid global changes, radical new freedoms — including freedom of religion — emerged as society began to separate church and state.
Through the Medieval to the Modern era, the church in the West has radically changed. With multiple branches of increasingly diverse theology and practices, all at war with one another, the horrific violence birthed a new philosophical movement in Europe: The Enlightenment.
The Church has constantly tried her best to find and follow Jesus amidst the tide of society — but it's been a long, confusing road. In our second Retro Church Q+R installment, Pastor Blake sits down to tackle your tough questions about the history of the Middle Church.
